P01 Proposal - Detailed Rubric

General grade scale

A: Exceeding expectations

B: Meeting expectations

C: Not-quite meeting expectations

D: Not meeting expectations

F: Failing expectations

Quality of Concept (1 point)

1 point: Idea or message is presented clearly and understandably.

0.65 points: There are minor concerns with the clarity or understandability of the idea or message. (For example: small gaps in logic, an unexplained term, a small assumption without support)

0.35 points: There are major concerns with the clarity or understandability of concepts. (For example: large gaps in logic, many unexplained terms, broad statements made without support)

0 points: Idea or message is entirely unclear or not understandable.

Research Materials (2 points)

2 points: Depth of research goes beyond what is specified in the brief, and results are presented clearly and understandably. (For example: multiple sources looked at, different stances on a given topic researched)

1.5 points: Depth of research meets what is specified in the brief, and results are presented clearly and understandably.

1.2 points: Depth of research does not quite meet what is specified in the brief, or, the presentation of the results have minor concerns with clarity or understandability. (For example: there appears to be a citation missing, the list of notes is lacking a summary)

0.9 points: Depth of research does not meet what is specified in the brief, or, the presentation of the results have major concerns with clarity or understandability. (For example: multiple citations are missing, only one source is explored, the notes are difficult to understand)

0 points: Depth of research does not meet what is specified in the brief, and the presentation of the results are entirely unclear or not understandable.

Design Process (4 points)

4 points: Ideas generated exceed what is specified in the project outline both in quantity and quality. (For example: more than 2 pages of initial ideation, more than 30 sketches, sketches as reasonably varied in ideas)

3.25 points: Ideas generated meet what is specified in the project outline both in quantity and quality.

2.5 points: Ideas generated do not quite meet what is specified in the project outline either in quantity or quality. (For example: less than 2 pages of initial ideation, only 20-30 sketches, sketches are very similar to one another in concept)

1.5 points: Ideas generated are not meeting what is specified in the project outline either in quantity or quality. (For example: less than 1 page of initial ideation, only 10-20 sketches, sketches are similar to one another in concept)

0 points: Ideas generated are not meeting what is specified in the project outline both in quantity and quality.

Concept Rationale (2 points)

2 points: Idea or message rationale presents a clear and effective argument including evidence (from research and sketches) for why it is a good concept for P01.

1.5 points: Idea or message rationale presents a clear and effective argument without evidence for why it is a good concept for P01.

1.2 points: Concept rationale has minor concerns with clarity which somewhat hinders the argument for why it is the best direction to pursue for P01. (For example: the evidence provided is not effective, argument demonstrates strong bias)

0.9 points: Concept rationale has major concerns with clarity which hinders the argument for why it is the best direction to pursue for P01. (For example: argument is unfocused, evidence conflicts with argument)

0 points: Concept rationale is unclear rendering the argument for why it is the best direction to pursue for P01 ineffective.

Quality of Deliverables (1 point)

1 point: Titling and organization of submission is clear.

0.5 points: Some titling or organization of submission is unclear.

0 points: Little to no titling and organization is entirely unclear.
