A03: Telling a Story


Using the tools of film making, tell a story in a series of frames that primarily use composition and sequence to reveal the narrative elements.

Due: PDF uploaded to Canvas before the Week 9 lecture.


Select a song that tells a clear story, such as Hotel California by the Eagles or Eight Mile By Eminem. You will then adapt the original song to a graphic story, you will need to significantly alter the lyrics. Consider the lyrics as a starting point only. Your final work does not need to have the same message or intent as the original.

You will then put together a sequence of images that use composition and sequence to visually tell your story. There should be a sense of visual continuity throughout your work. You should use framing and panel arrange to help craft reader experience of your work.

It is expected that you will use selections of images (not just grab frames as is) and craft several panels from one image. Choose images that have a good mix of foreground, middle ground and background content.

This assignment is worth 15% of your final grade, with each requirement receiving points as outlined below.
