P02 Detailed Rubric

General grade scale

A: Exceeding expectations

B: Meeting expectations

C: Not-quite meeting expectations

D: Not meeting expectations

F: Failing expectations

Application of Design & Photographic Principles (4 points)

Principles we are looking at: Use of angle, balance, scale, colour, framing, composition.

4 points - Images demonstrate an exceptional use of design principles.

3 points - There are some minor concerns with application of up to two of the listed design principles.

2.5 points - There are some major concerns with application of up to three of the listed design principles.

1.5 points - There are lots of major concerns with application of up to four of the listed design principles.

0 points - Design principles are rarely or never being demonstrated or used effectively.

Quality of Concept (2 points)

2 points: Concept is presented clearly and understandably with an effective definition of audience.

1.5 points: Concept is presented clearly and understandably with a somewhat problematic definition of audience.

1.2 points: There are minor concerns with clarity or understandability of the concept with a problematic definition of audience.

0.9 points: There are major concerns with clarity or understandability of the concept with a problematic definition of audience.

0 points: Concept is entirely unclear or not understandable, and audience is hardly defined.

Process Summary (5 points)

5 points - Clear and concise explanation of the process which uses evidence effectively to demonstrate 'how' the process created the resulting outcome.

3.75 points - Some minor concerns: Summary is somewhat unclear in its explanation of the 'how' of the process, though uses evidence fairly effectively. We can still see the connection of the process to the resulting outcome.

2.75 points - Some major concerns: Summary appears to be missing portions of the 'how' of the process and little evidence is used, making it difficult for us to see the connection to the resulting outcome.

2 points - Lots of major concerns: Reflection is missing portions of the 'how' of the process and no evidence is presented, meaning we are unable to determine how the process resulted in the final outcome.

0 points - The process summary that is presented is not understandable, or not available.

Analysis (3 points)

3 points - Clear and concise analysis that illustrating 'why' the final images succeed in conveying a consistent message through evidence and citing of specific design or photographic techniques.

2.25 points - Some minor concerns: Analysis is somewhat unclear either in illustrating 'why' the final images succeed in conveying a consistent message or in the citing of specific design or photographic techniques being applied.

1.5 points - Some major concerns: Analysis is unclear in illustrating 'why' the final images succeed in conveying a consistent message and in the citing of specific design or photographic techniques being applied.

1 point - Analysis is not connecting the use of design or photographic techniques with 'why' the final images succeed in conveying a consistent message.

0 points - The analysis does not make mention of design or photographic techniques, the 'why' the final images succeed, or no analysis is presented.

Use of Citations (1 point)

1 points: All potential citable items have been included.

0 points: Potential citations have been missed.
